Meet the Judges

  • Consultant at Roots & Rivers

    Janani (she/her) is a racialized settler on the stolen homelands of the hənqəminəm and Skwx̱wú7mesh speaking peoples. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in health sciences and a minor in social justice from Simon Fraser University, and brings experience in research, policy, and facilitation for governments and non-profits. As a consultant with Roots & Rivers, she supports values-aligned organizations, including non-profits, foundations, and governments, with interconnected servicRoots & Riverses for strategic planning, facilitation, and evaluation. With 6 years of facilitation experience, she strives to design processes rooted in relationships and anti-oppressive practices, to best support clients in strengthening their impact. Janani participated in Map the System in 2018 where her team explored the mental wellbeing of second generation Asian youth - she is looking forward to connecting with the MTS teams this year!

  • Manager of Strategic Services at Helpseeker Technologies

    Jillian Mah is an emerging leader in social innovation with a rich background in informatics and design, which she applies to her passions for education, social change, leadership, and technology. At HelpSeeker Technologies, she holds the role of Manager of Strategic Services, where she leverages her strong skills in empathy, strategic thinking, and information synthesis to drive impactful initiatives. Her professional journey includes significant contributions in consulting, strategic analysis, technology R&D, community engagement, and storytelling. Jillian is recognized for her ability to facilitate innovation through human-centered design, systems thinking, and community-led solutions, having led cross-team projects that address complex social issues across Canada. A Helpseeker Technologiesshe sees information as an act of awareness and intent, emphasizing learning through practice and instilling a sense of wonder in her approach. Jillian is currently completing her MBA at the Haskayne School of Business.

  • Founding Partner of Sapiens Conseils, Consultant and Instructor in Social Innovation and Knowledge Mobilization

    For the past 15 years, Luc has been working mostly as a consultant and an instructor in social innovation and knowledge mobilization. As a founding partner of Sapiens conseils, a knowledge management and mobilization group, he focuses on strengthening his clients’ skills in managing, translating and sharing their knowledge to enhance their capacity to innovate and achieve a collective impact. He also works at bringing people and knowledge together acting as a mediator and designing co-creation strategies and processes. Although the majority of his work has taken place in Quebec over the course of his career, he has just returned from a two-year stay in northwestern British Columbia, where he had the chance to experience the rhythm and culture of the West Coast with his family. He has also had the opportunity to intervene on a number of occasions in Latin America (Colombia, Mexico and Panama) as well as in Switzerland. Luc holds a Bachelor of Art in History, a Master’s of Art in Sociology and a PhD in Urban Studies.

  • Policy Manager/ Map the System 2018 Global Winner

    Roisin is currently a Doctor of Philosophy candidate at the University of Oxford in Primary Health Care. Her work is focused on optimizing patient risk/safety management in urgent primary care services. Roisin also works as a Policy Manager in London, where she works in partnership with the Department of Health to support an ambitious programme of legislative reform work relating to healthcare professional regulation. Roisin enjoys consulting and supporting others to develop skills for systems analysis, having recently worked with health services in understanding error, police services on the role of trust and on curriculum design for undergraduate nursing education. After winning Map the System in 2018, Roisin pursued a Master’s in Medicine and Public Policy and a Master’s in Medical Ethics in Law at King’s College London.

  • Vice President of Indigenous Relations and Equity with Calgary Foundation

    Tim Fox is a proud member of the Siksikaitsitapi, Blackfoot Confederacy, from the Kainai Nation, and current Vice President of Indigenous Relations and Equity with Calgary Foundation. Tim’s primary focus is facilitating a systems change approach for reconciliation, decolonization and racial equity. Tim helps to strengthen and enhance the internal culture and practice at Calgary Foundation while incorporating work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Racial Equity both internally and in the broader community. Tim published his first children’s book, Napi kii Imitaa (Napi and the dogs), in 2021 in both English and Blackfoot as part of a language revitalization project. He co-chairs The Circle on Philanthropy, and was recognized as a top 40 under 40 in 2019 for his efforts of mobilizing systems change for reconciliation and racial equity.

  • Economic Transformation Analyst at the Vancouver Economic Commission

    Vanessa’s passion for a sustainable and socially inclusive world has led her to work in various roles in the sustainability field. Most recently, she worked for the Vancouver Economic Commission focusing on supporting the City of Vancouver’s transition to a decarbonized and just economy. Since then, she has worked as an independent contractor supporting curriculum development for youth climate change-makers training. She volunteer’s with the BIPOC Sustainability Collective, which aims to foster inclusivity and diversity for BIPOC professionals in sustainability. She has applied the skills and systems thinking knowledge she acquired when she was a Map the System 2019 participant into the work she does everyday and hopes that more people can too.
